Many people find it hard to believe that I go through down times too and feel especially depressed during the winter months. Even great biblical characters had bouts of depression. Moses cried out, “Put me to death right now…” (Numbers 11:15) and the prophet Elijah lamented, “I have had enough Lord…Take my life” (1 Kings 19:4). Although this is a universal human condition, no one needs to be victimized by those feelings. Let’s be aware of effective ways to banish these blues and grow in the positive light:
− Do yoga. Numerous studies show this practice along with meditation helps the body release its natural “happy hormones” called endorphins. This promotes internal peace, harmony, and the light within us. − Put up a Christmas tree, decorate with holiday lighting, light candles, appreciate the sun, moon, and stars when they are visible. This external light nourishes the inner light within (the self) and radiates the soul. − Break your daily routine by calling, emailing, texting, visiting someone or responding to a survey. We are social animals. We need to be loved and wanted and cared for. Be that light to others. How do you grow in the positive light?
