Emerging from murky waters, like the lotus flower, the three powerful movies recommended below, represent awakening, transformation, and self-awareness. The result is one like the pure lotus revealing awe, beauty, and faithfulness.
1-The Mission (1986; starring Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons)-Spanish Jesuit missionaries travel to remote villages in South America with the mission of converting the natives to Christianity. However, when Portuguese colonizers attempt to enslave the indigenous people and the Spanish representatives rule in favor of the colonists, the Jesuit missionaries are determined to not give up on the mission and to follow God’s will. 2-Maudie (2016; starring Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins)-An intelligent yet severely arthritic woman yearns for independence from her controlling brother and aunt. Responding to an advertisement for work, she achieves her independence and true talent, as well as forging new relationships. 3-Queen of Katwe (2016; starring David Oyelowo and Madina Nalwanga)-Phiona, a poor and hungry young girl, daughter of a single mother, sells corn on the streets to help her family. Curious about the daily escapades of her brother she follows him deeper into the slums of Africa. This little girl’s life is changed forever. Checkmate. My husband and I are always looking for impactful movies to add to our movie night list. I would love to get some recommendations from YOU! Namaste.

I liked The Mission a lot. Here are two films from the same director, Tim McCarthy, that uplifting and so well done: The Visitor and The Station Agent.

Thank you, Joe, for the recommendations and the lMDb movie trailer links. I recall seeing the trailer of The Visitor, but I forgot all about it. I just reviewed the trailer again and am going to request it from the library. My type of film. Real life; transformation; Lotus Flower; YES! 🍿 I'd never heard of the Station Agent until now. Just watched the trailer and it made me laugh right away. I will request that one too. Thank you. Anyone else reading this? Send your recommendation(s). Don’t be shy. Ishvara Pranidhana. 🙏

It's a bit controversial but The Shack was not only a good book to read but they didn't disappoint with the movie either. It has a very good message about forgiveness (especially forgiveness as seen by God).

Thank you for your recommending the movie The Shack. I loved the book. Actually gave a presentation on it at a women's meeting. Years later I saw the movie. The movie is very deep and emotional. My husband loved it as well. Comments are closed.
