What does Yoga Mean to You?

I recently conducted an anonymous survey from random people in Columbus and vicinity asking, "What is yoga? What does it mean to you?"  Some of the participants were shy at first but then graciously provided feedback. Names are withheld to respect people's privacy.  Here's what they said:
  • "Exercise and stress reliever."-Tim Horton's employee
  • "A form of stretching."-A family member
  • "Mind clearing; healthy and spiritual."-Kroger employee
  • "An ancient form of exercise which came from, I believe, India or maybe even China, using meditation to heal the body."-Ohio Artist at the Columbus Building & Renovation Center
  • "It's a form of meditation. I do it to relax."-Wendy's employee
  • "It's a program of multiple things to promote physical wellness. It's physical. It's breathing. And may even have a spiritual component. It's more challenging than it looks and is a good overall body workout without any need for any accessories."-EyeCare Associate staff member
A heartfelt thank you to all those above who took the time to answer my question(s) with great accuracy. I truly enjoyed how this turned into a meaningful conversation. Some of you in turn asked me a question about something out of the blue, like politics (ahem). It's a blessing to have those heartfelt face-to-face honest and respectful conversations. 🙏
To everyone else reading this I invite YOU to share your answer to this question by leaving a reply to this post. I would love to know what yoga means to you?

For me, yoga is exercise that engages the mind-body connection. It's an opportunity to step away from the world for awhile and center myself. The poses, breathing, and movement all bring me to a more focused point. Just like the pattern of our breathing, I feel pulled in and also opened up. I feel more mindful and concentrated, but also more expanded, both physically and mentally.
